Most action stars are now obsolete and we get these
crap artsy fartsy ancient Chinese wire-fu flicks starring females, instead of
classic 80's action. Don’t ask me why, it just happens! Accordingly, Jean
Claude had to change his acting style, to be able to reach any range and to be
prepared to take any challenge. If you have any doubt about his acting skills,
you’d better see his more recent Replicant, In Hell, Wake of Death, first part
of Desert Heat or the whole Narco! Wholeheartedly, I swear you’ll be amazed by
his facial expression, by his laconic, yet powerful, phrase, by the blink of his
eyes, or the tears streaming on his grimaced face from his devastated, full of
anger, foggy eyes. Someone told once his roaring in the “powder” scene from
Bloodsport is the best expression of fury ever. He even had the power to say,
with his well-known humor: “Hey, JC, try to act!”
You know people who
succeed by the bad terms in which they are chewed by the press! Not even one
of the successful actors or actresses escaped their insults! So, Jean Claude
is on top, again!
Still,
there are honest people, the ones who met him, so
look
what THEY say about Jean Claude:
«His gestured workmanship allows him an economy
of verbal markers. To follow Jean-Claude, it is necessary to have lively mind
and whet eye.» Hugues de Chanay
«I had to supervise filming in Canada and I told
myself that I was going to be dealing with a hysterical star. But Jean-Claude is
overwhelming with respect, a true pro. In two hours, he succeeded in inserting
all choreography. Beyond of this artistic plan, he really touched me, he’s a
very human person with a mad energy, far from the picture of roughness which
mass media gives in general.» Julien Rigoulot, boss of Cosa, about the filming
of Kiss my eyes
«I am a fan of Van Damme. He’s a touching guy,
steeped in of feelings.» Benoît Poelvoorde
«You will never see Jean Claude Van Damme saying
something malicious, out of place. I do not understand why they put so much
energy to make it all up. Ah yes, they go out of bucks; they get the sentences
out of their context... Let’s say I take any actor, I take out a sentence of
its context, it is so easy. You can make up a stupidity in seconds! And even at
metaphysical and philosophical level, Van Damme says things sometimes more
clever than quite a lot of well-known philosophers.» Benoît Poelvoorde
The future
can’t be but bright! He’s trying to combine the martial arts kind of
movies, the ones which got him where he deserved, with impressive acting
skills! He lacked a good director, the latest years! Well, it seems Sheldon
Lettich, the great Sheldon Lettich, is back on track, for The Hard Corps! Not
to mention the K1 stars gathered for the long expected Kumite! Let’s wait
and see, let’s have patience, the future will be great! He was the best, he
will be the best, again!
